Uttarakhand Government makes its mind on the UTET_1 issue

The Uttarakhand Government is reported to have made its mind regarding the Uttarakhand Teacher Eligibility Test (UTET 1 or UTET 2011) issue.

The issue arose out of the recent Nainital High Court verdict, ordering the UBSE to remove the 45 percent marks in graduation eligibility criterion from the UTET 1 or UTET 2011. The Nainital HC termed the 45 percent marks in graduation criterion, against the right of equality given to its citizens by the Constitution of India.

on thursday, the Government is reported to have decided on its course of action on the issue.

The Government is reportedly to be contemplating on taking one of the two steps. First is, it can simply go with the HC order; and remove the 45 percent marks in graduation criterion in UTET 1 or UTET 2011. But the UBSE is reportedly against this step; on grounds namely a) there should be some criterion for selection in any competitive exam b) if the 45 percent marks in graduation is removed, those students who did not apply for the UTET1 beacsue of the percentage limit, might go to the court.

If the Government goes with the points raised by the UBSE, then it will take the second step; and will apply a Re-consideration petition(punar Vichaar yachika) in the HC.
