Uttarakhand Government has set up a grain bank to provide food security to at least 55 villages of Uttarakhand.

The bank, set up under the world food programme, is unique in a sense that it will be managed by local women.

The bank will work this way -- Villagers will take food from the bank and return after the harvesting season. The Government plans to replicate the programme in all the proposed 670 Atal model villages, which are proposed to be set up in the state soon.
