Students who secure less than 60 percent of marks in their intermediate exam; and take admission in BTech in Uttarakhand; will now have to appear in a Special Exam in their First Year of BTech.
It will be mandatory on the BTech student ()securing less than 60 percent marks in intermediate or BTech qualifying exam) to qualify this Special Tri-Semester examination (held one time in three months), informs the new proposal made by Uttarakhand Technical University.
Why the Special qualifying Exam?
The proposal is formed considering the decline in the BTech result in the colleges in Uttarakhand of late. If the BTech instituitions/colleges in Uttarakhand agree to the UTU proposal then the Special qualifying Exam in the first year of engineering for BTech Students in Uttarakhand with less than 60 pc marks in intermediate, will be implemented from the next academic session.
NOTE: Courtesy, countless engineering colleges mushrooming up in the state in recent years; a significant number of seats available at engineering colleges affiliated to UTU could not be filled in the past two years. As a result (pressure from colleges), UTU this year opened BTech admissions to those students as well who secured less than 45 percent marks in intermediate (40 percent for SC/ST). As a result, a large number of students couldn't pass in more than half of the first semester exams.
To tackle the above problem, the UTU has proposed the new rule; under which Students who secure less than 60 percent of marks in their intermediate exam; and take admission in BTech in Uttarakhand; will now have to appear in a Special Exam within 60 days of their admission and will have to pass it.
Format of the Special Exam for BTech Students in Uttarakhand with less than 60 pc marks in intermediate:
The new proposal provides for special Maths and Physics classes (intermediate level curriculum) for such students going to take the Special exam. Only those students who secure 50 percent marks in the Special Exam, will be able to continue the BTech degree. The BTech admission of those failing to secure 50 percent marks in the Special Exam will be cancelled.
