In an attempt to better link the villages of Uttarakhand to the world, the Uttarakhand Government yesterday, participated in a trilateral agreement with different agencies, to connect by next year i.e. 2013, 60 percent of villages Panchayats in the state with Optical Fibre Network (Broadband internet travels on these optical cables).
Notably, this is the biggest initiative in this area, having a participation of 16 States in the country.
Hailing the initiative, the Uttarakhand CM Mr. Vijay Bahuguna Said,
"If the valuable human resource (Uttarakhand has a 80 percent literacy rate) in distant villages in the state ate connected via Broadband, then it will help the Human resource (people) better connect to employment and public welfare schemes."
In order to complete the project in a time bound manner, the Uttarakhand CM requested HRD Minister Mr. Kapil Sibal to help the state get the forest clearances in an exigent manner.
