Uttarakhand government has decided to identify land to relocate villages hit by the June flash floods.

Among other decisions taken in the meeting today, the Uttarakhand Government has decided to:

1) launch women-centric vocational schemes for those women who lost their husbands or breadwinners in the tragedy. The beneficiaries for such rehabilitation schemes are already being identified.

2) the Land banks (areas where land for relocation purposes is available) will soon be identified and the process of rehabilitating people rendered homeless by the calamity will begin at the earliest, assured the Uttarakhand CM Vijay Bahuguna.

3) In view of the food grain shortage, arising out of tragedies of this scale, the Uttarakhand Government has also decided to set up grain banks at about 30 places across the state where people can procure foodgrains in times of crisis.

4) The Uttarakhand Government is also thinking of pension to women who became widows in the calamity and those who were maimed.

The detailed proposal in this regard is being made and will possibly get the cabinet approval in the next cabinet meeting.
