Earthquake warning, 8.5 magnitude, epicentre Pithoragarh | FAKE NEWS

Yesterday a message was circulating widely on WhatsApp. The message (in Hindi) was: The geologists in Dehradun have issued a warning of an earthquake sometime late during night. The earthquake will be of magnitude 8.5 on Richter scale with its epicentre in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand.

People seemed concerned by the warning, and were anxiously sharing it.

The message was FAKE.

Who shared it, we cannot say.

But the message tells what any FAKE news is capable of achieving.

You don't need to cross check whether the said earthquake warning in Uttarakhand or elsewhere was FAKE or not.

All you have to do is, know this simple fact: With our current level of technology (even Globally), no one can predict an earthquake. So such a warning cannot be issued. Hence a geologist will never issue such a warning.

So discourage Fake news on Whatsapp and elsewhere by not sharing it.
